# Dithiothreitol

Dithiothreitol (DTT), also called Cleland's reagent, is a strong reducing agent used to break disulfide bonds and to keep cysteine thiols in the reduced state. It is commonly used in protein and peptide sample preparation. DTT oxidises in air, so solutions are prepared fresh or stored frozen.
