Glossary

# Diethyl ether

Diethyl ether is a volatile, highly flammable organic solvent. In peptide synthesis, cold diethyl ether or methyl tert-butyl ether is used to precipitate crude peptide from the trifluoroacetic acid cleavage mixture, washing away scavengers and protecting-group by-products. It readily forms explosive peroxides on storage.
