# Deletion sequence

A deletion sequence is a synthetic peptide impurity lacking one or more amino acids from the intended sequence, typically caused by incomplete coupling or deprotection during solid-phase synthesis. Deletion peptides often elute close to the target on HPLC and are identified by mass spectrometry as species lighter than the target by the residue mass of the missing amino acid.
