# Dalton

The dalton (Da), or unified atomic mass unit (u), is a unit of mass defined as one twelfth of the mass of a neutral carbon-12 atom, approximately 1.6605 × 10⁻²⁷ kg. Peptide and protein masses are commonly expressed in daltons or kilodaltons (kDa). A mass of 1 Da corresponds numerically to 1 g/mol.
