# Circular dichroism

Circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy measures the difference in absorption of left- and right-circularly polarised light by chiral molecules. In the far-UV region, peptide backbone conformations give characteristic spectra, allowing estimation of alpha-helix, beta-sheet and random coil content under different solution conditions.
