# Chirality

Chirality describes a molecule that cannot be superimposed on its mirror image, like left and right hands. All standard amino acids except glycine are chiral. Natural proteins are built from L-amino acids, while D-amino acids are introduced synthetically into some research peptides to alter conformation and increase resistance to enzymatic breakdown.
