# Capping

Capping is a step in solid-phase peptide synthesis in which unreacted amines remaining after a coupling are acetylated, usually with acetic anhydride, so they cannot grow further. This converts potential deletion sequences into truncated peptides, which differ more from the target and are easier to remove during purification.
