# C18 column

A C18 column is an HPLC column packed with silica particles bonded with octadecyl (18-carbon) chains, providing a strongly hydrophobic stationary phase. It is the most widely used column type for reversed-phase peptide analysis. Wide-pore (around 300 Å) versions are preferred for larger peptides and proteins to allow access to the pores.
