# C-terminus

The C-terminus is the end of a peptide or protein chain bearing a free carboxyl group. Sequences are written ending at the C-terminus. Many synthetic research peptides are C-terminally amidated, replacing the carboxylic acid with a carboxamide; this removes a negative charge and alters the molecular weight by about one dalton compared with the free acid form.
