Glossary

# Bulking agent

A bulking agent is an inert excipient added to a formulation before freeze-drying to provide structure to the cake when the active material is present in very small amounts. Common examples are mannitol, glycine and sucrose. Research peptides are often supplied without bulking agents, so the cake may appear small or collapsed.
