# Boc

Boc (tert-butyloxycarbonyl) is an acid-labile protecting group for amines. In Boc solid-phase peptide synthesis it is removed with trifluoroacetic acid at each cycle, and the final cleavage from the resin traditionally uses very strong acids such as hydrogen fluoride. Boc chemistry has largely been replaced by Fmoc chemistry for routine synthesis but remains useful for difficult sequences.
