# Biotinylation

Biotinylation is the covalent attachment of biotin to a molecule such as a peptide. Biotin binds streptavidin and avidin with extremely high affinity, so biotinylated peptides are used for immobilisation, pull-down experiments and detection in assays such as ELISA. Spacers are often included to reduce steric hindrance.
