# Beer-Lambert law

The Beer-Lambert law states that absorbance equals the product of molar absorption coefficient, path length and concentration. It underlies spectrophotometric concentration measurement and UV detection in HPLC. For peptides, the coefficient at 280 nm can be estimated from the numbers of tryptophan, tyrosine and cystine residues.
