# Area percent purity

Area percent purity is a purity value calculated by dividing the peak area of the target compound by the sum of all peak areas in a chromatogram and multiplying by 100. It assumes similar detector response for all components. For peptides, UV detection at 214 to 220 nm, where peptide bonds absorb, makes this assumption reasonable.
