# Antagonist

An antagonist is a substance that binds to a receptor without activating it, blocking or reducing the action of agonists. Competitive antagonists bind the same site as the agonist, while non-competitive antagonists act at a different site. Peptide antagonists are used as tools to probe receptor function.
