Glossary

# Acetonitrile

Acetonitrile (CH3CN) is a polar aprotic solvent and the most common organic modifier in reversed-phase HPLC of peptides. Its low viscosity and UV transparency at low wavelengths make it well suited to gradient separations monitored at 214 to 220 nm. Small amounts can also help dissolve hydrophobic peptides.
